Standing proud above the Wiltshire landscape, Wiltshire’s Grey brings together two things I return to again and again in my work — the countryside around me and the quiet presence of horses within it.

A grey horse stands among a bank of wildflowers, looking out across rolling fields beneath a wide blue sky. I wanted the horse to feel strong and statuesque, while the abundance of grasses, poppies, lupins and other wildflowers gives the foreground a looser, more joyful feel.

Wiltshire’s Grey is an original reduction linocut, created by carving and printing each layer of colour individually from the same block. As the block is gradually carved away during the process, the edition can never be repeated.

Each print is hand-carved, hand-printed, signed, titled and editioned on the front, with the small variations inherent in the process making every impression individual.
