The Outer Hebrides are filled with a unique, silvery light and dotted with little bothys — simple cottages that always made me smile. Some are homes, others are shelters for weary hikers, each carrying its own story.
When I travelled through the islands, it felt as though I was never far from water. Whether sea or loch, fresh or salt, the ever-changing surface reflected the mood of the day — still and mirror-like in sunshine, rippling under a soft breeze. Placing my bothy close to the water felt instinctive, a natural setting for this imagined refuge.
The final touch came with the wildflowers scattered across the machair, their colour and movement bringing life to the scene. Together, these elements shaped the idyllic vision I held in my mind.
