For me, Stonehenge Sunrise carries a touch of irony. During my years as a Police Officer in Wiltshire, I often found myself on duty at the Summer Solstice — which meant waking at a ridiculous hour to be at the stones before dawn. Yet, as the sun rose and the sky filled with colour, the exhaustion of a 4am shift melted away. The beauty of the moment always won.

I've been fortunate enough to visit many other stone circles, but I return time and again to Stonehenge and Avebury in my artwork. Perhaps it's because working on them stirs memories of those extraordinary mornings — the stones bathed in light, shared with colleagues and the people who gathered freely to greet the dawn.
