The Keeper

Ancient, twisted and still standing, The Keeper is about the quiet strength of a tree that has weathered years of change and remains rooted in its place.

I was drawn to the extraordinary shapes within this old tree — the sweeping branches, exposed roots and wonderfully gnarled trunk. Rather than trying to make it neat or perfect, I wanted to celebrate every twist, scar and irregularity that gives it its character. Against layers of fresh greens and soft greys, the dark structure of the tree becomes almost sculptural.

There is something reassuring about old trees. They have stood through countless seasons, silently witnessing everything that has happened around them. The Keeper is my celebration of that endurance — strong, grounded and beautifully imperfect.

This original reduction linocut is hand-carved and hand-printed, building the image through successive layers of colour from a single block. Because the block is gradually carved away during the printing process, the edition can never be repeated.

Each print is signed, titled and editioned on the front. Small variations are part of the hand-printing process, making every impression individual.
